Originally conceived and produced as a staged musical designed to teach children about environmental awareness, it was adapted in 2014 as an interactive album-style musical experience. This is the debut album of composer/performer Caroline Miller, in collaboration with Nathan Siler as arranger, producer and engineer.

Written for the education outreach program Surflight-To-Go, A New Kind Of Hero toured with the company in 2014. Following the tour, the album was funded through a successful Kickstarter campaign, and recently wrapped production.

“I wrote this musical to fill a need. When I found out that Surflight was looking for a new environmental musical, I wanted to be the one to write it, ” says composer Caroline Miller. Inspired by her husband’s work in environmental education, and by a cultural obsession with superheroes she came up with the story of a girl who found a radical way to save the world. The main character, Olivia is also an homage to Miller’s younger sister, who has faced significant personal battles with exceptional courage. Each song features a different style inspiration – Rock, Blues, Classic Musical Theater, American Folk, Traditional Celtic and Pop – acting as a musical education as well as an environmental one.
