A good sharp set of a dozen numbers, Davis getting into numbers relatively well known ("Motherless Children," "You Got to Move") and more obscure. His guitar playing is in fine form throughout, though at least as good are his hoarse, spirited vocals. Listen to the rich, urgent upper-register moans that punctuate "Crucifixion" for proof. The jubilant "I'll Fly Away" is an outstanding example of country-gospel-blues' potential to uplift and inspire.
