When in 2012 the first footwork EP by Symbiotic Sounds was released, very few people in Poland were aware of Lukasz Szydas and his label Sequel One (run with Jakub Derezynski) existence. "Everybody Loves An 808" was a perfect combination of the characteristic Chicago sound and the European dance floor tradition. The EP was received very warmly abroad andsupported by the biggest footwork producers: DJ Spinn, DJ Rashad, Addison Groove. In no time did Lukasz become one of the most interesting and original representatives of juke/footwork in Poland.
Less than two years after his debut in 160 bpm, Symbiotic Sounds has prepared another EP "HIGHER". On one hand, with his new release, Lukasz follows the path chosen with the "Everybody Loves An 808" EP; on the other hand he makes some new choices. Dominant thread of "HIGHER" is jungle, gradually returning to critics and listeners favours. Its footwork infused, hybrid form, is a starting point for Lukasz. Classic break loops mixed with the typical Chicago sound, remind of the atmospheric mixture of the 90s soaked with futurism.
Every track sounds like it was made with a great attention to detail and the tension in them was created with perfectly picked methods. It creates an impression of a composition where balance is more important than a noisy overload. Symbiotic Sounds remains loyal to warm analogue sound while avoiding the emotional naivety.
With his first EP "Everybody Loves An 808" Lukasz has set the bar really high. The question is will he be able to reach this level again in the future? Solely the title of his new release should be enough for all of us to know the answer to that question.
