Traders
Traders was first featured on the Childish Things EP, last year, and is a stripped down DJ cut that takes a foundation of raw, acid house, sparse and dynamic percussion, and coats it with improvised trumpet playing, giving whole new meaning to the term acid jazz.
A pair of signature remixes by Swedish techno don, Samuel L. Session, explore different elements, one of them replacing the trumpet altogether with emotive, Detroit style chords. Michigan based producer, Myles Serge, goes in a more minimal direction, as he is known to do, with interesting, layered loops of the original elements, changing the context of the sound palette altogether.
After hearing DJ Sneak drop the original version of Traders at Glastonbury and shazzam-ing it to find out what it was, Mahogani Music artist, Dan Shake, reached out to Rennie and the Traders II collaboration track followed shortly. This sequel to Traders received a vinyl release on UK imprint, Black Acre and appears here, in all its digital glory, as well.
Finally, the artwork is an original drawing, left behind on a scrap piece of paper, by Graffiti legend Hans Fear aka Ghost, before he passed away. Hans was an important friend and artistic mentor to Rennie Foster, and is the brother of trumpet player, Alfons Fear, who played the masterful trumpet that you hear on Traders. These are the kinds of authentic connections that the RF label is all about, and you can hear the real life stories in the music.
