Mozart: Requiem in D Minor, K. 626 (Remastered 2020)
This album presents the only existing recording of Guido Cantelli conducting Mozart's Requiem. Taped in 1950, it sadly has deplorable flaws and, in its original state, does not sound well. However, with the use of modern, state-of-the-art restoration techniques, it was possible to achieve far better results. The musical and historical value of this performance is without any doubt. Cantelli was the most exceptional young conductor of his time. Promoted by Arturo Toscanini, this young maestro was already principal conductor of La Scala Milan Opera House and was well-received in most prestigious venues on both sides of the Atlantic. Together with world stars as soprano Renata Tebaldi, Bariton Cesare Siepi, and the Milan Scala Orchestra, he achieved one of the most beautiful readings of Mozart's Requiem ever put on record. His early death from an airplane accident in 1956 has deprived the world of its most promising young conducting talent. The classical music world would be of a different kind today if he would have survived.
