Take Me Back

Take Me Back

Wood, Wind & Wire
"The anti-trendy, intentionally un-cool acoustic duo"

Here's what people are saying:

"As talented writers and composers, the husband/wife duo of Daryl & Karen Yearwood that make up Wood, Wind & Wire could easily fit any musical mold they chose. But with their newest recording, "Take Me Back", a clear path has emerged. "Folk" music is what most people would call it. I call it GOOD music, very good music.

The Cd is a lovely mix of classic tunes and stand out original compositions. The production is seamless and smooth, uncluttered by bells and whistles, and allows the beauty of the lyrics and melodies to be heard. The cover art, designed by the artists themselves, reflects the content of the recording as a whole and is interesting and eyecatching.

Many voices have been said to be 'angelic' but Karen Yearwood's is one that epitomizes that descriptive. Her clear delivery is a treat and always conveys they emotion behind the lyric. Husband Daryl's smooth baritone seems to caress the words and is so easily listened to that, even on a first play of the cd, feels familiar and comforting. These two distinctly different voices, amazingly, blend perfectly, creating a warm and rich harmony very pleasing to the ear.

Musically, the accompaniement is sparse and simple, yet gracefully accented by Daryl's hammered dulcimer and Karen's bowed psaltry. In this day and age where more is often considered to be better, the simplicity of this recording is a very pleasant change of pace and can only be described as beautiful.

Overall, I find "Take Me Back" to be thoroughly enjoyable and certainly representative of folk music at it's finest. But there's something here for every discerning listener who appreciates 'good' music."

"Take Me Back, a new album by Wood, Wind and Wire, represents some of the best and most beautiful folk music of East Tennessee. Married couple Daryl and Karen Yearwood weave easy listening, original melodies with their warm and inviting voices. The album begins with Karen's pure and angelic soprano voice on "Warefaring Stranger" and continues with a perfect mix of originals and timeless covers. The results are stunning. A standout is a live version of "Before I Die" where Karen and Daryl sing a gorgeous duet together. Their harmonies throughout the album are warm and refreshing.

Wood, Wind and Wire's original songs such as "The Banks of the Tennessee" and "Summer Breezes" are cheerful, lovely and sure to raise your spirits! I loved the moving guitar work and pretty fingerpicking on songs such as "Touching You." I also enjoyed the inclusion of the hammer dulcimer throughout the CD on songs such as "Paddy's Green Shamrock." Hearing the dulcimer throughout their album was joyful, seamless and so relaxing.

Their CD is a wonderfully sweet and satisfying collection of classic folk songs that they make their own as well as wistful, original melodies. Listeners who appreciate Celtic and acoustic folk music will love this album! Wood, Wind and Wire brighten the Knoxville music scene with their positive, cheerful folk music!" - Jodie Manross, Singer/Songwriter
