Incantation- Cancellation
"Incantation" by David Hicken is an intense piano solo with driving rhythms, intricate melodies and classical influences. Inspired by driving, accented rhythms and repetitions of a single note, the ideas developed around repeated left hand notes and the title was born. The word "Incantation" implies singing, but the word dates back to the 14th century, and originally meant to "put a spell on" or "bewitch". The piece has a driving energy which is relentless, and the hammering home of a repeated note 'e' creates an almost trance-like state, so the title is very fitting.
