Every so often a voice comes along and redefines soul for a generation. Canadian songwriter, singer, and independent recording artist AHI is that voice, and with the recent release of the Indie Soul EP, he presents his trademark sound, Indie Soul. With a voice described as “gravel on silk”, AHI blends the raw passion of traditional soul with the edge and innovation of indie music for a sound that simply pierces the soul.

From his humble beginnings as a Toronto-based performer, AHI has gone on to travel across the vast woodlands of Canada, the tropical hillsides of Trinidad, and the ancient cities and majestic highlands of Ethiopia. Some call it “soul searching”, but these pivotal years were less than romantic, shaping AHI’s worldview and helping define what would become his musical voice.

Inspired by the music of Bob Marley, MJ, Sam Cooke, 2pac and many others, AHI has learned to see music as a powerful expression of honesty to reach the human spirit; this is the void in current music that AHI has devoted himself to filling. AHI has independently travelled over 17,000 miles internationally, and he continues to go where others lack the courage, forging timeless music that will speak to the hearts of generations.

AHI’s soulful cover of ‘No Woman, No Cry’ recently earned him a personal note from Mrs. Rita Marley herself, after it was featured on BobMarley.com alongside celebrity covers by Alicia Keys, Eric Clapton, Rihanna, Johnny Cash, and more. CBC Radio One counted the Indie Soul EP one of Toronto’s Top 10 Local Records of 2014, and it's follow-up, 'Goldenous', as Song of the Week (Feb 9 - 13, 2015).
