The Dukes of Dixieland
Torchbearers for the vibrant traditional New Orleans jazz sound, theDukes of Dixieland have enjoyed decades ofsuccess throughout theirvarious incarnations.Originally emerging in the late '40s, the Dukeswere formed by trombonist Freddie Assunto and his brother,trumpeter FrankAssunto.Sons oflongtime New Orleans trombonistJac Assunto, they were a nationally recognized live act for over 20years, and issued many well-regarded albums like 1957's The Dukes ofDixieland and 1962's The Dukes of Dixieland at Disneyland. After thebrothers passed away, the band's name was reborn under newleadership in the 1970s, and featured an evolving lineup of players.This second version of the Dukes of Dixieland has continued to tourand record, picking up a Grammynomination for 1999's Gloryland andreleasing a handful ofconcert albums, including Live at Jazzfest 2017.
